Fort Collins Club would like to remind its members, members of other local gyms and all members of the Fort Collins community to register for the Fort Collins Triathlon and Duathlon before race day on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 7:00 am. The event is proudly sponsored by Fort Collins Club, which holds more community athletic events than any other health club in the area including the semiannual Fort Collins Club Triathlon & Duathlon, a Kids Triathlon, the Fort Collins Thanksgiving Day Run and the accompanying Gobble Gobble Kids Run. The registration fee for an individual is $65. Registration for relay teams is $100. There are discounts available for those signing up for both.

Race organizers pride themselves on making the event safe and non-intimidating. Fun and fitness is the ultimate goal. As the second Adult Triathlon offered through FCC this year, this semi-annual event, with both spring and fall sessions, makes it easy for athletes to track summer training. It is also a great event for first time competitors because of the safe, flat and fast course. Walking is allowed and participants are encouraged to bring their family, friends and out of town guests to experience the community spirit of Fort Collins!

First timers are encouraged to attend the pre-race meeting on race orientation and basic fitness tips on the Saturday before the event at 1:30 pm at the Fort Collins Club. There is also a regular pre-race meeting on Saturday at 2:30 pm.

Packet pick up is the Saturday before the event at the Fort Collins Club, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. A race number, timing chip, race map, t-shirt and other giveaways are included. Participants can also elect to pick up their packet the morning of the race from 5:30 am-6:45 am. The transition area opens at 6:00 am.

A triathlon consists of a 450 yard swim, 13 mile bike ride, and three mile run. The swim portion of the Fort Collins Triathlon takes place at the EPIC pool where participants must complete 18 lengths. The bike portion is a three loop course. Competitors must stay to the right of traffic cones and are encouraged to pay caution the dangerous railroad tracks. The run begins at the transition area along the Power Line Trail, west along Drake on sidewalk, and then back to the Parkwood East Neighborhood.

A duathlon is a 1.2 mile run, 13 mile bike ride, and three mile run race. This course excludes the swimming portion and starts at Stuart St. cul de sac and follows a circle loop. Two cyclists will lead and follow this group of runners. Duathlon races then move to the transition area to get on course with the triathletes.

A post-race party and awards take place immediately after the event near the Fort Collins Club outdoor pool area. The party includes a pancake breakfast and drink of the participant’s choice. Top female and male competitors will receive the highest honors. Awards will be given to individuals in age categories, starting from 12-15 years of age and up in five year increments. The top three female, male and coed relay teams also receive awards. Top Athenas (150+ lbs.) and Clydesdales (200+ lbs.) win awards, too. This is a great opportunity to meet other participants and learn new fitness tips.
