HM King Mohammed VI, who pays an official visit to the Russian Federation, attended, on Tuesday March 15, 2016 a wreath-laying ceremony at the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Upon his arrival at the memorial, the Sovereign was welcomed by the commander of the Moscow Military District and Russia’s ambassador to Morocco, before reviewing a detachment of the three armies (Land, Sea Air) who made the honors.
Afterwards, the Sovereign went to the Kremlin where he held talks with Russian president Vladimir Putin.
Talks were held in the presence of the HM the King’s advisors Taieb Fassi Fihri and Fouad Ali El Himma, Russian Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov and Russian president’s advisor Iouri Ouchakov.
The two leaders then chaired the signing ceremony of several bilateral cooperation agreements in various fields including a statement on closer strategic partnership.
According to the Declaration on “Deep Strategic Partnership between the Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco’’, the official Royal visit is a milestone in the history of bilateral relations between the two countries and consolidates their age-old friendship and fruitful cooperation.
In their Declaration, the two countries called for strengthening the central role of the UN in the fight against international terrorism, transnational organized crime, corruption and other criminal challenges.
Concerning the Sahara issue, the Declaration said that “The Russian Federation and the Kingdom of Morocco do not support any temptation to accelerate or haste the political process, nor any violation of the parameters defined in the Security Council resolutions.”
The Declaration added that “The Russian Federation takes due account of the position of the Kingdom of Morocco for the settlement of this problem and “takes note” of the socio-economic projects launched by Morocco in the southern provinces for to develop the region and improve the living conditions of its population.
