SpeakingPal has won first place in the Education Category for a pioneering mobile education product showcasing its innovative content at SmartContent 2011, Korea. The conference, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency, was aimed at discovering and awarding “Smart Content” worldwide. SpeakingPal was chosen for its unique focus on teaching speaking skills, using high-end, multimedia rich English language learning content.
SpeakingPal is especially designed for non-native English learners who need to improve their English speaking skills, which is a burning need the world over. Typical educational solutions require endless and repetitive practice, and lack instant and overall feedback for each student. SpeakingPal allows the learner to simply speak into the mobile with a video character in short, entertaining dialogs, and receive instant color-coded feedback on how well each word and sentence has been said. Such feedback capabilities even outpace those of human teachers or tutors, who are hard pressed to respond to each and every utterance that the student says.
“We were extremely honored to have won first place at SmartContent 2011”, says Eyal Eshed, CEO and co-founder of SpeakingPal. “The conference brought together innovative and outstanding solutions, and SpeakingPal is very pleased to have been chosen to be a winner in such a prestigious event.” Dr. Shaunie Shammass, the linguistic expert responsible for SpeakingPal’s content says, “Content creation for mobile education is an art, where the technological and pedagogical considerations must meet in order to be effective. The team is very excited to have our innovative content so appreciated.”
Smart Content 2011, now in its sixth year, was the largest held to date, hosting 154 entries from 15 countries in seven categories. Winners in each category received prizes of USD 5,000, a trophy, and an emblem of excellence.
