Boosted by a string of well-received redesigns and a pair of all-new vehicles, Subaru has experienced 29 consecutive months of year-over-year sales growth, and yet, the brand’s best dealership performances may still be ahead. As Subaru’s existing lineup attracted record April sales last month, the automaker revealed a redesigned 2015 model of its popular Subaru Outback that could kick its sales momentum into overdrive when the new sport-utility wagon hits the market this summer.
Donning a bolder exterior, the 2015 Subaru Outback melds its bumper and hexagonal grille for a smoothly integrated front fascia, while a more raked front windshield and crisper style lines flow toward the rear of the vehicle. That sleeker sheet metal has also been shaped to be more aerodynamic, combining with a more efficient standard Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) to help the new Outback return a manufacturer-estimated 33 mpg on the highway. Despite that predicted 3-mpg increase over the current standard model, the 2015 Outback will be more capable with its newly standard X-Mode, more agile with its refined chassis and new Active Torque Vectoring, and more versatile with an additional 1.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats.
“All of Subaru’s recent redesigns have made its vehicles even more prepared for the fury of Mother Nature while saving drivers more at the gas pump, but the new Outback is a particularly illustrative example,” said Chris Dunn, general manager of Mastria Subaru, a Greater Boston Subaru dealer. “Buyers of the 2015 Outback will be getting class-leading all-wheel-drive fuel economy while benefiting from a nimbler ride and the option to engage X-Mode to reduce wheel spin when the road gets rocky or icy.”
Treacherous roads won’t translate to a turbulent cabin either, as the 2015 Subaru Outback cuts down on noise and vibration with a new acoustic windshield, thicker paneling in strategic locations, liquid-filled engine mounts, and more floor-damping material and foam insulation. The new Outback’s serene interior is complemented by intuitive technologies, including the new standard 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system featuring Subaru STARLINK smartphone-app integration with Aha, Pandora and iHeart Radio, a rear-vision camera, Bluetooth connectivity, iPod control capability, and USB and auxiliary inputs. Safety has also improved through the updated optional EyeSight driver-assist system, which packages together Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning with stereo-camera technology.
